Rainy Day Activities in Dublin

Here are some of our favourite things to do in Dublin South with little ones on a rainy day

{loadmoduletitle AdSense_Skyscraper float:right; padding:10px}

  1. Visit the National Art Gallery, Merrion Square, Dublin 2. Weekly family events. Family packs and kids art worksheets available from the information desk. See the collection of Irish and European Art. Admission is Free!
  2. Imaginosity is Ireland's first interactive museum for children under ten. Get creative in the art studio and the kid's stage, join in the building fun in the construction company or climb the Imaginosity climber. There is always a full programme of events and activities. Booking is advisable.
  3. Visit a play-centre and let the kids loose! There are several in Dublin South - Fun Fitness at Total Fitness in Sandyford, Fitzone in Westwood Gym, Leoparstown, Tallaght Adventure World in Dublin 24, ENRG in Rathcoole or the Leisureplex in Tallaght and Stillorgan.
  4. Pottery Painting at Giddy Studios in Rathfarnham. Buy a piece of pottery and let the children paint it or add their handprints in the spacious, comfortable art studio. Drinks and snacks also available.
  5. View the amazing collection of Irish artifacts dating back to 7000BC at the National Musuem of Archaeology, Kildare Street. The Museum holds regular family events, activities and tours. Make sure to visit the activity cart on the first floor, art materials and worksheets available for free. Admission to the musuem is Free!
  6. Go to the Cinema. Many of Dublin Cinemas have kids' discounted movie screenings, where adults attend free and with special kids combo deals on popcorn on snacks. See what's on at some of the following Dublin South Cinemas: UCI Tallaght, Vue Liffey Valley, Ormande Stillorgan, IMAC Dun Laoghaire or Movies @ Dundrum.
  7. Dundrum Town Centre - Visit Hamley's famous toy shop, amazing toys and displays over three floors! There is also a small play area for younger children in store. Dundrum regularly hosts family friendly events and activities. Have a bite to eat in one of the many family friendly restaurants. Check out the great kids section in Hughes & Hughes bookstore or visit the Build-A-Bear store and design your very own teddy! Would recommend the cookies, chocolate, coffee's and babycino's in Butlers Cafe! Great baby changing and feeding facilities on every floor.
  8. Dublin South Libraries - Visit your local library. The majority of the libraries in the county have a junior library. You can easily while away a rainy afternoon, reading with the children or taking part in many of the free events and activities that take place.
  9. Kilmainham Gaol - Visit Ireland's largest unoccupied gaol. Leaders of the rebellions of 1798, 1803, 1848, 1867 and 1916 were detained here. Such names as Robert Emmet, Charles Stewart Parnell, leaders of the 1916 Rising and DeValera are associated with the Gaol. Attractions include a major exhibition detailing the political and penal history of the prison and its restoration. The tour of the prison includes an audio-visual show.
  10. If you don't feel like leaving the house we have some ideas for entertaing the kids at home here
