There are lots of ways to raise green awareness and eco friendliness among children. Here are some suggestions for Dublin South Eco Kids!

Eco-Activities

Kippure Estate, Manor Kilbride, Blessington, Co Wicklow

Educating children on their responsibilities as citizens of this planet cannot begin early enough. The best way to do this is with a visit to Kippure Estate in the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. This 240 acre estate is dedicated to educating children, young and old, about the physical environment. We carry out field studies for students about to sit their Leaving Certificate examinations in Geography (River Study) and Biology (Woodland/Grassland Ecology). These studies are also enjoyed by children of younger ages as an introduction to these subjects. Our ‘Bringing Nature to Life’ module is based on Joseph Cornell’s Nature Awareness approach and offers children a nature awareness experience where they begin to make a personal connection to the natural world through playful investigation. School tours to Kippure Estate are very popular as we have a High & Low Ropes course here where children can learn team building and communication skills or just have some fun and adventure. Orienteering and ‘The Great Egg Challenge’ are also good ways to test their skills and exercise the body and mind. As part of our tours we offer the opportunity to combine the adventure activities with ecology nature walks so the children can learn about the ecology of the area they are visiting in a fun way before getting up onto the ropes for even more fun. Tours are designed to suit the age and size of groups so be sure to give us a call to enquire about what we can do for your group.

Call 01-458 3873 and talk to Clíona or Martin. You can also email us at eco@kippure.com.
