Mykidstime: The Wexford Scene,  March

Wexford is a wonderful place for children and families. My family and I moved here from Dublin a few years ago and have by degrees discovered so much more going on that I had never imagined in this marvelous County.

Thinking back to when I lived in Dublin preparing to move to Wexford, my mind would conjure images of beaches, never-ending wide open skies, marram grasses, palm trees and lots of brighter sunnier days which is really very appealing to say the least!! And while this is not at all off the mark, I realised that there is a whole lot more on offer than just sandy beaches and palm trees. Mature gardens, deciduous forests, mountain trails, forts, castles and cairns which excite and stimulate young children's imaginations. Children are so much fun to watch when they actually take on the role of a Norman Princess, Knight or Pirate with sword drawn always ready to dupe the enemy by escaping down a 'secret trail' somewhere. I discovered this 'other' side of Wexford both through working with www.mykidstime.ie and being a Mum in Wexford. It gets a little too windy for the beach sometimes but there are a lot of sheltered and secluded places to go walking and cycling with the kids in Winter too!

Additionally, Wexford has a rich culture of embracing the arts and incorporating children into the art world. The Wexford Arts Centre, the Wexford Opera House, Hook Lighthouse, the Cockleshell Gallery, Cow House Studios and the Wexford Book Centre all host many children's performances and are great supporters of Children and the arts and this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of free events going on in Wexford for kids too!
